SCD, Paleo Ketchup

Alright, so I have tried like every single internet recipe I can find to make a ketchup that resembles anything close to "real" ketchup. Not one tastes even close so I am coming up with my own. This is what I have come up with. After a day in the fridge I don't think any recipe will be any closer to the real thing! Very pleased with this one. Let me know if you come up with something better! I would love to try it ;) This SCD, Paleo Ketchup is  Gluten-free, Grain Free, Yeast Free, refined sugar free, and sweetened with honey.

1 Can Tomato Hunt's paste
3 TBSP White Vinegar
1/2 Cup Water
1/4 Cup Honey
1/2 tsp Salt
1 tsp Onion Powder (Do not Omit! This is what has brought me closer to the "real" thing.)

Bring all ingredients to a boil in a small saucepan. Stir for about 2 minutes and then turn off heat. Cool and serve. Store in refrigerator.

  1. Ran across this from a google search. I'm just starting SCD and have been cheating with ketchup. I decided today that I was going to make my own and this one is GOOOOOD!! I could probably even use a little less honey. Thank you thank you thank you!!

    1. Hi Michelle...

I LOVE Applegate hotdogs (do you get the chicken apple)? I thought they looked SCD friendly to me. Love your ketchup recipe. Can't wait to try. :-)

  3. Hi Amber! My favorite so far are the Original Beef! So good they taste like polish sausage dogs to me and my husband and the casing is almost just right :) I tried the Chicken ones before and the casing was so tough but the flavor was pretty good. Never tried the Chicken Apple, will have to make sure it's legal and try em. I hope you love the ketchup! Let me know what you think when you do ;)Thanks for the comment =D

  4. Hi there,
What is the weight of the tomato paste please? We don't have Hunt's here so I thought I'd use another brand as I really want to try this for a friend :o)

    1. That is because Elaine did not trust that all ingredients were listed in canned vegetable products. I contacted Trader Joe's and they list 100% in their store brand so their tomato paste could be used. Also products that come from Italy list all ingredients so I get those tomato products that don't have sugar as well when I go to Whole Foods instead of Trader Joe's.

  6. How many oz. was your can of tomato paste please? I have a 4.5 tube and a 7 oz can up in my panty lol not sure how much to use. Thanks!

  7. A can of tomato paste is generally 6oz. With all recipes of this type the measurements can be approximate and to your own taste. Of greater concern is to make sure the product you use is legal. I use fresh tomatoes that I prepare from scratch (with salt) and it turns out great!

  8. Hi there!
I just made your ketchup with xylitol and it tastes great! I can't have any sugar at all with proteins (causes bad reflux) , so I exchanged the honey and it still works. Just be careful though, xylitol can cause gas and you know what else....
Thanks for the recipe!! You're the bomb!

  9. You don't know how happy this makes me! Made it this morning and YUMZY! I have two boys who are in remission of Crohn's and I have NEVER found a ketchup they would eat except for Wellbees...and you probably know that costs about $15/bottle! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

  11. I thought onion powder was not allowed because of starch added to prevent clotting.. is there a brand that is only made of onion?
